Pioneer Appradio range critical design flaw exposed.

Okay so an odd one for you today, as we tend to do a lot of game development on the go, one of the more off the wall things we do is use the Pioneer head units HDMI inputs on our vehicles to experiment with scaling and readability for game UI and text elements on lower resolution displays (generally sub-720p), it also works as a handy 16:9 secondary display for running live game code from a laptop.

About 13 months ago both the SPH-DA09 “Appradio” units in our vehicles failed within a few weeks of each other, not electrically, but in what can only be described as progressive deterioration of touch screen functionality.

More environmental testing

As per the previous post, I’ve been toying around with a weather / temperature monitoring system, as part of this system I’m also adding a relatively basic wind direction/strength system that can be linked to projectile velocity (especially for slower moving objects more prone to their trajectory being effected by wind resistance), as a bonus the current wind direction can also be pulled dynamically from the instanced particle systems linked to weapons fire, allowing for wind to effect how the muzzle smoke is blown from the barrel.

Weather and weapons system changes

Today’s update is all all about weapons systems and weather!

While I have been somewhat negligent lately with progress on project PW due to work commitments, I’ve quietly integrated a particle based weather system, it need’s a little work to polish it up and get it displaying exactly how I’d like it, including spawning sub particles for splashes when rain particles collide with either the player or the world.
